Privacy Policy

Effective 4 October 2026

01Who we are

OttoEdit ("OttoEdit", "we", "us") is operated by Prithvirajsinh Ghatage, Pune, India. This policy covers the website at ottoedit.com, the Otto desktop app, and the AI services we provide through them (together, the "Service"). We decide how and why your personal information is processed, which makes us its controller (a "data fiduciary" under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023).

02Information we collect

You give us

  • Account details: name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash we cannot read), sign-in through Google if you choose it, and the answers you give when requesting access.
  • Messages: anything you send us by email, support or feedback.

Created when you use Otto

  • Your content: the footage, audio, images, music, text and project information you work on with Otto, including frames, clips, transcripts and timeline data derived from them ("Content").
  • Your instructions: the briefs, commands, prompts and feedback you give Otto, and the edits Otto produces, including changes you make to them ("Edits").
  • Screen views: like a colleague looking over your shoulder, Otto's Advisor sometimes takes a screenshot while Otto is open, so it can see your edit and give useful advice. It only does this while Otto is running. A screenshot shows whatever is on that screen, so we suggest keeping private windows out of view while you work.
  • Usage and performance data: which features you use and when, how long tasks take, results, errors, crash reports, AI usage and costs, and how often you accept, change or undo Otto's work. When something goes wrong, Otto automatically sends us its recent log (what you asked, what it did, and the error) so we can fix it. It never includes your footage. You can turn this off in Otto's Settings, under Privacy.
  • Device and software: operating system, app version, editing software and version, hardware details, IP address and approximate location derived from it.

On our website

  • Visit data: pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, referring site, device and approximate country. Analytics cookies are used only if you accept them (see Cookies).

03How we use it

  • To provide the Service: to create and secure your account, decide early-access seats, run Otto's AI on your Content, and deliver your Edits.
  • To monitor and improve it: to understand how Otto performs and how people use it, measure quality, find and fix problems, and build new features.
  • To develop AI: to train, test and improve our own models, as described in section 4.
  • To keep it safe: to enforce usage limits, prevent fraud, abuse and misuse, and protect our users, our systems and us.
  • To talk to you: service and account messages, and news about OttoEdit. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To meet legal duties and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Where a law such as the GDPR requires a legal basis, we rely on performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running and improving the Service, your consent (for analytics cookies and where we ask for it), and legal obligations.

04AI training and your choice

Otto gets better by learning from real editing: which cuts work, which captions get kept, what editors change. So by default we may use your Content, Edits, screen views and usage data to train, test and improve OttoEdit's own AI. That is how Otto learns your style and gets faster with every project.

How we protect you when we do:

  • We remove details that directly identify you, such as your name and email address, before anything is used for training.
  • Training data is used only inside OttoEdit. It is never sold, never shared for others to train on, and never shown to other users.
  • Otto is built to learn editing patterns, not to reproduce your footage for anyone else.

You can opt out at any time, no questions asked. Opting out does not change how Otto works for you. Email support@ottoedit.com with the subject "Training opt-out" from your account email. From then on, new Content and Edits from your account will not be used for training. Information already used in a model that was trained before you opted out cannot be removed from that model.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you may object to this use at any time, and we will honour that objection as an opt-out.

The outside AI providers listed below act on our instructions. Under our agreements with them they may not use your Content to train their own general models.

05Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information or share it for others' advertising. We share it only with:

  • AI providers that power Otto: Anthropic (Claude), which receives your instructions, transcripts, project data and screenshots, and Google (Gemini), which receives frames and clips of your footage.
  • Infrastructure providers: Supabase (accounts and usage records), Cloudflare (website, servers and file storage), Resend and Google Workspace (email).
  • Analytics providers: Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics, only if you accept cookies. They may also use data as their own policies describe: Microsoft, Google.
  • Authorities and others when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of OttoEdit, our users or the public.
  • A buyer or successor if OttoEdit is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation or sale of assets. This policy will continue to protect your information.

Transcription runs on your own computer. Your full source files stay there, except for the parts Otto sends to the providers above to do its work.

06Where it is processed

We are based in India. Our providers process information in the United States and other countries. When we transfer information across borders we use the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.

07How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account is open. We keep Content, Edits and usage data for as long as we need them for the purposes above. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal information within 90 days, except where we must keep it by law, to resolve disputes or to enforce our agreements. De-identified data and trained models may be kept.

08Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls and per-account database rules. AI keys are held on our servers, never inside the app. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed, disclosed or lost. If a breach affects you, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

09Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, update or delete your personal information; to get a copy of it; to object to or restrict its use; to withdraw consent; and to nominate someone to act for you. To use any of these rights, email support@ottoedit.com from your account email. We will respond within the time the law allows and may need to confirm who you are first.

If you are in the EEA or UK you can also complain to your local data protection authority. California residents have the rights the CCPA gives them. We do not sell or "share" personal information as that law defines it, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.

10Cookies

The website stores one item to keep you signed in and one to remember your cookie choice. Analytics cookies from Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics are set only if you tap "Accept". Clarity records anonymous session replays and hides what you type into forms. Cloudflare counts visits without cookies. Change your cookie choice.

11Children

The Service is for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as OttoEdit grows. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, For any change that matters, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, and explain what changed in plain words. We will never start using information you already gave us in a significantly new way without telling you first.

13Contact and grievances

For questions, requests or complaints, contact our Grievance Officer, Prithvirajsinh Ghatage, at support@ottoedit.com. We will acknowledge your message and work to resolve it promptly. If you are in India and not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
