AI video editing in Resolve
An AI video editor that works inside DaVinci Resolve
OttoEdit is an AI editor for DaVinci Resolve Studio on Windows. Tell it what you're making in plain words. It watches every clip, builds the edit on its own timeline in your project, and takes your notes from there. It's free right now.
What it edits
- Talking heads and YouTube videos: it listens to every take, keeps the clean version of each line, drops the false starts and tightens the pauses.
- Music videos and reels: it hears your song and cuts on the beat, or on your markers if you've placed them.
- B-roll: it places cutaways on the words they're about.
- Vertical: say "make it vertical" and it reframes for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
The finish
- Captions: word by word, timed to the voice. Pick a look drawn on your own footage.
- Speed ramps: name the moment, tap one of six ramp cards, drag the curve if you want it different.
- Transitions and camera moves: flashes, whips, zooms, light leaks and push-ins, each shaped to the moment.
- Colour: fixes shots that are too dark or too blue when you say yes, matches shots, and puts on looks or your own LUTs.
- Sound effects: it suggests whooshes and hits and where they'd go. Nothing goes in until you agree.
How it works
- Open your project in Resolve and open Otto next to it.
- Otto watches your clips once and remembers them.
- Tell it what you want, like "cut this to the song" or "keep the clean takes".
- It shows you the plan, then builds the edit on its own timeline. Give notes, or take over by hand.
What you need
DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 or newer, Windows 10 or 11, and an internet connection. If your PC runs Resolve Studio comfortably, it'll run Otto.
Your footage
Speech-to-text runs on your own computer. To see your shots, Otto sends frames and short bits of your clips to a vision model, and your instructions and the transcript go to a reasoning model that plans the edit. Your original files never leave your machine.
How it compares
Descript and CapCut are their own editors, so you'd leave Resolve to use them. AutoCut and FireCut are Resolve plugins for single jobs like silence cutting, captions and zooms. Resolve's own AI tools each do one job too. Otto stays inside Resolve and works on the whole edit, start to finish.
Questions
Is there an AI that can edit videos for me in DaVinci Resolve?
Yes. OttoEdit watches your footage and builds the edit inside DaVinci Resolve Studio, on a timeline you can keep working on.
Is OttoEdit free?
Yes, right now, AI included, no card. We let people in a few at a time.
Does OttoEdit work with the free version of Resolve, or on a Mac?
Not yet on either. You need DaVinci Resolve Studio on Windows.
Will OttoEdit mess up my timeline?
No. It only touches what you name, its edit lives on its own timeline, and "undo" takes you back.
Can AI replace a video editor?
Not the taste, and it shouldn't. Otto does the legwork, like watching everything, cutting, captions, ramps and colour, so you spend your time deciding.
Try it on your own footage. It's free right now.
